Who We Are
Rock Flooring Calgary installs, repairs and refinishes floors for homeowners, landlords, builders and small businesses in Calgary and the surrounding towns. We work on the floors people live on every day: basement slabs, main-floor kitchens and living rooms, upstairs bedrooms, stairs, bathrooms and entries.
We are locally owned and operated, with years of experience installing flooring in Calgary-area homes — which means we know this climate, this housing stock and the problems that come with both, from dry winter air to basement slabs that were never poured flat.
We are also a service-area business, which means we don't run a showroom. We come to you instead — to see the room, check the subfloor and talk through options in the place where the floor will actually be installed. That is where the most important decisions get made anyway: in your light, next to your cabinets, trim and walls.
What We Do
Our work covers the full life of a floor. We supply and install new flooring, prepare and repair the subfloor underneath it, remove old flooring as part of a complete job, and finish with stairs, transitions and baseboard. When a floor is damaged or worn, we repair or refinish it — and we will tell you when that is a better use of your money than replacing it.
Flooring we install
How We Work
Six principles behind every floor we install, from a single bathroom to a whole house.
Start under the floor
Most flooring failures begin below the surface — a dip in a slab, a loose subfloor panel, a joist that flexes. We look there first and build the fix into the plan, so the new floor is not covering up an old problem.
Written, itemized estimates
Every estimate lists materials, removal, subfloor preparation, installation, stairs and trim as separate lines. You can see what each part costs, compare quotes fairly and decide where to spend or save — and we never ask for a deposit.
Honest recommendations
Sometimes the right answer is a less expensive floor, a refinish instead of a replacement, or waiting until a moisture problem is solved. We would rather lose a job than install a floor we expect to fail.
The complete job
One crew handles tear-out, preparation, installation, transitions, stairs and trim, with removal quoted as its own line. You do not have to coordinate three different trades to get one floor finished.
Respect for your home
We work in lived-in houses every day. We keep work areas contained, tell you about schedule changes before they happen and leave the space clean when the job is done.
Standing behind the work
Our installation work is backed by our workmanship warranty, and installing to each manufacturer's instructions keeps your product warranty intact. If something needs attention afterwards, we come back.
Built Around Calgary Homes
Flooring in Calgary is shaped by two things: the climate and the age of the house. Winters are long and dry, furnaces run for months, and chinook winds swing temperatures quickly. Wood floors shrink and gap, cold slabs stiffen vinyl, and frost moves the concrete under tile. Every recommendation we make takes that into account.
The housing stock matters just as much. Mid-century bungalows often hide oak strip flooring under old carpet. Bi-levels and split-levels from the 1970s and 1980s have busy staircases and basement slabs that were never poured flat. Two-storey homes from the 1990s and 2000s often have OSB subfloors that have started to squeak. Newer suburban homes tend to have builder-grade carpet and laminate ready for an upgrade, and condos come with bylaws about sound ratings and approvals. Knowing what to expect in each kind of home helps us quote accurately and avoid surprises halfway through a job.
Licensed, Insured and WCB-Alberta Covered
Hiring an insured, WCB-covered contractor protects you as the homeowner. Liability insurance covers accidental damage to your property during the work. WCB-Alberta coverage means that if a worker is injured on your job, the claim goes through the Workers' Compensation Board rather than landing on you.
You don't have to take our word for it. Homeowners can request a clearance letter from WCB-Alberta to confirm that a contractor's account is in good standing, and whenever you ask, we send proof of insurance and our WCB-Alberta clearance letter before work begins.

Questions to Ask Any Flooring Contractor
Whether you hire us or someone else, these questions separate a careful installer from a risky one. We are glad to answer every one of them.
- Are you insured, and do you have WCB-Alberta coverage? Ask for proof. An uninsured crew can leave you exposed if your property is damaged or a worker is hurt on the job.
- What exactly does the quote include? Removal, subfloor preparation, underlay, stairs, transitions and baseboard should each be accounted for. A quote that is only a price per square foot usually leaves something out.
- How will you prepare the subfloor? A good answer mentions checking flatness and fixing squeaks, soft spots or dips before installing. "It'll be fine" is not a plan.
- Will the installation follow the manufacturer's instructions? Acclimation, expansion gaps, underlay and adhesive all affect whether the product warranty stays valid.
- What warranty covers your workmanship, and is it in writing? The product warranty covers the flooring itself; the installer's warranty covers how it was put down.
- Who will actually do the work? Know whether the person quoting is the person installing, and who to call if something needs attention later.
- How do you handle surprises? Rot under a bathroom floor or asbestos in old vinyl can change a project. Ask how changes are priced and approved before work continues.
Our Team
Our team of certified flooring professionals handles every stage of the work in-house: tear-out, subfloor preparation, installation, stairs and trim. The same crew that starts your project finishes it, which is why the details at the walls, the doorways and the stairs match the quality of the floor itself.
Everyone on site works under our liability insurance and WCB-Alberta coverage, follows the flooring manufacturer's installation instructions so your product warranty stays valid, and treats your home as a place people are still living in — contained work areas, clear communication about the schedule and a clean space at the end of the job.
