Flooring in Strathmore
Strathmore sits east of Calgary in farming country, and the housing runs from established in-town neighbourhoods and newer subdivisions out to acreages and working farms.
The flooring conversation shifts as you move out of town. In a subdivision home, it looks like any Calgary suburb: wear layers, carpet pad, basement development. On an acreage or a farm, the entry stops being a design feature and becomes infrastructure — the place where field dust, spring gumbo, gravel and work boots meet the house.
We charge the same rates here as in Calgary and schedule in Strathmore and the surrounding country regularly.
What the Homes Are Like Here
In-town housing includes older homes with layered flooring histories and newer builds with conventional open plans. Acreage and farm homes vary enormously, from modest bungalows to large custom houses, often with additions and renovations accumulated over decades.
What working properties share is traffic volume at the entries and, frequently, several generations of flooring stacked in the same building.
The Flooring Work We Do in Strathmore
- Mudrooms and entries built for farm and field conditions.
- Whole-home replacements in town and on acreages.
- Removal of layered and glued-down old flooring.
- Basement developments, with slab testing.
- Durable replacements in rental and farm-worker accommodation.
Build the Mudroom for the Job
The single most valuable flooring decision on a working property is a properly sized, properly built mudroom.
Three things make the difference. Area: a generous tiled zone, not a token square, so boots come off well inside the door. Surface: porcelain tile with texture for grip when wet, and grout dark enough to tolerate what gets tracked in. Fittings: a bench, hooks and a boot tray, so gear stays in the zone rather than being carried through the house.
Done well, the rest of the home can be finished for comfort — warm plank floors, carpet in bedrooms — because the abrasive material never gets past the door.
Layered Floors and Removal
Older Strathmore homes frequently carry several flooring generations: linoleum under carpet under laminate, or sheet vinyl glued directly to a subfloor decades ago.
That affects the removal line on an estimate more than anything else. Pulling carpet is quick; lifting glued-down sheet goods and scraping the adhesive underneath is slow work. We quote removal separately so you can see exactly what it costs and decide whether to handle part of it yourself.
One caution for homes built before about 1990: old sheet vinyl and 9-by-9-inch tile can contain asbestos and should be tested before being disturbed. We do not perform abatement — if a test is positive, a certified contractor removes it first.
