Flooring in Chestermere
Chestermere is built around its lake on open prairie east of Calgary. Housing ranges from older properties close to the water — some of them originally seasonal — to large subdivisions built in the last two decades.
Two environmental factors shape flooring here more than anything about the houses themselves. The lake, which sends water, sand and wet gear through back doors all summer. And the wind, which on open prairie carries fine dust in the dry months and drives snow against every entrance in winter.
Our rates in Chestermere are the same as in Calgary, with the same itemized estimates and no deposit.
What the Homes Are Like Here
Near the water, expect a mix: older homes that have been renovated and expanded over decades, and newer builds designed to take advantage of the lake frontage. Further out, the subdivisions look much like Calgary’s newer communities, with open main floors, bonus rooms and unfinished basements.
Subfloor conditions vary accordingly. Older lakefront properties can carry a patchwork of levels and materials from successive renovations; newer homes are flat, square and straightforward.
The Flooring Work We Do in Chestermere
- Lakefront entries and mudrooms, specified for water and sand.
- Whole-home replacements in both older and newer properties.
- Basement developments, with slabs tested first.
- Sun-stable main floors where windows face the water.
- Rental and second-home turnovers.
The Entry Does the Heavy Lifting
In a lake household the floor nearest the water takes more abuse in a summer than most floors take in five years. Wet feet, dripping swimsuits, sandy towels and dogs straight out of the lake all land in the same few square metres.
Sand is the problem, not water. It is abrasive, it travels on bare feet, and it dulls any finish it gets under. Porcelain tile shrugs it off; a 20 mil wear-layer vinyl plank handles it well while feeling warmer underfoot. Either needs a long mat and, ideally, a bench and hooks so gear comes off at the threshold.
The front door needs its own plan for the opposite reason: wind-driven dust in summer and packed snow in winter. The same principles apply — hard surface, generous mat, boot tray.
Sun Off the Water
Homes with lake views usually have windows to match, often west-facing. That puts direct afternoon sun on the floor for hours, warming a strip of it well above the rest of the room.
Softer vinyl cores can expand in that heat. Our recommendations in sun-exposed Chestermere rooms are a rigid SPC core, lighter plank colours where the sun lands hardest, full expansion gaps at every wall and fixed object, and blinds or UV film on the largest glass. For real wood, engineered construction rather than solid.
